Celeste Ng’s latest novel is due out later this year.
Penguin Press will Ng’s . to publish Our missing hearts this fall announced the Penguin Random House imprint in a press release. It will be Ng’s third novel, na Everything I never told you and Little fires everywhere†
The new novel follows Bird, a 12-year-old boy living in a dystopian version of America in which libraries are made to dispose of “unpatriotic” books, and the children of dissidents are routinely displaced by the government. He sets out on a journey to find his mother, a poet who disappeared three years earlier.
“I just started writing a book about a mother and son, but soon found myself struggling with questions raised by the bigger reckonings that happened in recent years — or avoided,” Ng said. “Can we really make a difference? How can we teach our children to make the world a better place if we haven’t been able to do it ourselves?”
Ng’s earlier novels were both bestsellers. Little fires everywhere formed the basis for a Hulu series starring Kerry Washington and Reese Witherspoon, and Everything I never told you is being amended in a series by production company Annapurna Television.
Penguin Press says: Our missing hearts “is an old tale made new, of the ways in which supposedly civilized communities can ignore the most grievous injustices.” It is scheduled for release on October 4.
