Children’s author Kwame Alexander is launching a new trilogy this fall.
Little, Brown will publish Alexander’s The door of no returnthe first part in a series of three books, the publisher announced in a press release.
“Epis of scale and intimate in tone, The door of no return invites readers of all ages to experience one of the great novelists of our time,” said Little, Brown.
The novel follows Kofi, an 11-year-old boy in 1860 Ghana who embarks on an epic journey after an incident of violence changes his life forever. Little, Brown calls the novel “the first book in a scorching, breathtaking trilogy that tells the story of a boy, a village and the epic odyssey of an African family.”
Alexander is one of the most celebrated authors of children’s literature. His earlier books include: the crossinga Newbery Medal winner, and the undefeated, who was a finalist for the Kirkus Prize. His most recent book, a graphic adaptation of his novel Bookedwas published earlier this month.
Alexander confirmed the news of his upcoming novel on Instagram, to write“It’s about a boy. With a crush. Who is a swimmer. In September 1860. This is the saga of an African family. And I can’t wait for you and your family to read it.”
The door of no return is scheduled for release on September 27.
